Sister Cities in Action and Decolonize Berlin cordially invite you to the event “Sister Cities in Public Spaces: Remember. Create.”
The event kicks off with three short videos offering insights into memory practices in Berlin’s sister cities—Windhoek, Jakarta, and Mexico City—as well as a keynote address on future-oriented forms of remembrance in Berlin.
In four workshops, we will develop and test specific practices of remembrance for public spaces.
Together with you, we would like to explore perspectives that are historically sensitive while also looking toward a positive future for society. Even though practices of remembrance often stem from painful or traumatic events of the past, this event deliberately looks ahead: How can practices of remembrance become an active space for shaping an inclusive and livable urban society? How can positive visions of the future emerge from this? What role can city partnerships play in this? And how is the culture of remembrance experienced and shaped by diaspora groups in Berlin?
The event also offers an opportunity for an informal, lively exchange over coffee and cake (starting at 1:30 p.m.) and a group dinner (starting at 6:00 p.m.). More information about the program will follow shortly.
